Operation Uganda was pioneered in 2005 by Russ and Jen Barton, when their family moved to Uganda to respond to the orphan crisis, the effects of internal conflict and extreme poverty. Their mission in Uganda is to keep vulnerable children in family units, break the cycle of poverty through education and to strengthen and develop communities.
Today, more than 3000 orphaned and vulnerable children are supported through Operation Uganda’s programs, including those who receive a complete education from pre-school through to the end of secondary school in the Scholarship Program. Operation Uganda has a number of positive impact programs, including Youth Empowerment & Leadership, Keeping Girls in School, Mum’s & Bub’s, School Chaplaincy, and Counselling & Support services. In addition Operation Uganda coordinates many community development and relief activities such as emergency food support, rent assistance, community library and rescue fund.
Kardinia Church sends teams of volunteers to Uganda on a regular basis to work alongside the Operation Uganda team. Insight Trips help develop relationships and participants see firsthand the transformative work Operation Uganda does in the communities they serve.
Kardinia Mission partners with Operation Uganda providing funding for their education and development projects.
